For Oncology Patients

In Georgia, only our clinic carries out selection of protocol of maintenance and management of reproductive function of oncology patients on the basis of case conference involving foreign and Georgian fertility specialists, oncologists and chemotherapists. Our foreign consultants in the field of reproduction are leading specialists from Israel, Turkey, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine etc.

First-ever in Georgia ONLY at GGRC it is possible to conserve germinal cells of oncology patients before commencement of chemotherapy and irradiation procedures that promotes recovery and maintenance of reproductive function of oncology patients after their treatment. The service implies freezing (cryopreservation) of germinal cells (egg cells, testicular fluid) or reproductive tissues (ovary and seminal gland).

What is Cryopreservation?

Fertility preservation is the cryopreservation (freezing) of human reproductive tissue to be used later for in vitro fertilization (IVF) therapies or intrauterine insemination (IUI).

With the use of liquid nitrogen, human tissues such as semen, oocytes (eggs), and embryos (fertilized eggs) are frozen at temperatures around-196 degrees Celsius and stored in specially designed tanks. When the patient is ready to begin a family, the tissues will be shipped to an IVF clinic, thawed for use by a licensed IVF doctor.

As the leader in long term storage, GGRC is offering the latest innovation in cryostorage planning. By establishing a special trust for your frozen embryos, eggs, sperm, or reproductive tissue, you gain flexibility, control, and protection for the future.

When is Recommended Cryopreservation?

Fertility Preservation is typically used by patients concerned about their future fertility. Fertility can be affected by a number of different factors, including disease, lifestyle, career, or age. The ability to preserve reproductive tissues is a great option and often recommended by doctors for cancer patients, military personnel, high impact athletes, etc.

Regardless of the causes of infertility, cryopreservation and cryostorage are advances in the medical field that allow patients another attempt at having a family—an option that is priceless to many who have practically given up on raising children.

IVF Service

Fertility Sperm Cryopreservation

If you choose to have your sperm frozen, you can use your sperm at a later date to get pregnant. This would work either through intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF). In general, the IVF success rate is not affected by using cryopreserved semen., you will always have the opportunity to discuss options with one of our specialists. We will help you determine the best options for achieving a pregnancy using your frozen samples.

Our lab can provide the cryopreservation data to your doctor. We will indicate whether additional freezing is recommended.

Preserving Oocytes, Ovarian Tissue & Embryos

The most widely used and trusted method of fertility preservation is embryo cryopreservation. Oocyte (egg) cryopreservation has also rapidly increased due in part to recent data and success rates.

Ovarian tissue cryopreservation procedure can be quickly performed by a reproductive endocrinologist and does not delay chemotherapy. Ovarian tissue cryostorage is the main fertility preservation option for prepubescent girls to freeze ovarian tissue before cancer treatments.

When diagnosed with cancer, survival is foremost on the patient’s mind. However, many treatments used to fight cancer can adversely affect fertility, which is a fact often overlooked in the race to defeat cancer. But advancements in reproductive technology have given cancer survivors hope for future reproduction, which makes the fertility preservation conversation more important than ever.
